Position: Chief Exploration Geologist, Corporate


Location: This position is based in Toronto, Canada.


Role Overview: The Chief Exploration Geologist, Corporate is a technical role that provides support and advice to the global exploration program. The role is one of a growing group of technical experts within Alamos who assist with ensuring that the highest levels of exploration geoscience standards are maintained.



  • Assist the Vice President, Exploration and senior exploration managers through the contribution of technical expertise to the exploration programs in specialized fields such as, but not limited to: interpretation of volcanic geology; assistance with re-logging campaigns, contributing to 3D geological modelling and understanding; exploration geochemical and geological mapping; and mineralogical These special projects will have the overall aim of improving the geological understanding of our ore deposits and exploration projects;
  • Assist with the establishment of work systems and good practices to maximize technical efficiency through the global project portfolio;
  • Intimate involvement in Corporate Development including but not limited to the assessment of new projects, country profiling and maintenance of associated databases;
  • Involvement with global GIS and target generation initiatives including data analysis;
  • Assisting the senior exploration managers with technical training and mentoring of exploration teams;
  • Assist and support the Vice President Exploration and senior exploration managers with preparation of technical reports and presentations for internal distribution to the executive management group and externally to the investor and analyst community;
  • Assist the Vice President Exploration and senior managers with short-range and long- range exploration planning;
  • Provide sound technical advice to the company’s exploration team on methodology and techniques employed in the exploration program;
  • When required coordinate the specialist investigations and services of external consultants and contractors;
  • Ensure that a high standard of Health and Safety is maintained in all exploration activities to conform with both national statutory requirements and the protocols of the Alamos Gold Corporation Group;
  • Other duties as assigned. 



  • Undergraduate degree in geology and/or geological engineering; advanced degree a significant asset;
  • Bilingual Spanish/English (required);
  • Minimum 10 years’ international experience in mineral exploration / mineral exploration research, including significant experience in the exploration of gold deposits;
  • Experience in review and analysis of large drilling databases to elucidate key factors for occurrence and controls on mineralization;
  • An excellent understanding of geological environments, deposit models and ore-forming processes as pertains to the latest concepts of gold deposit environments;
  • An ability to think across-scales and to integrate diverse, large datasets;
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with particular emphasis on explanation of technical concepts to a non-technical audience;
  • A high level of software fluency is required of particular importance are experience with AcQuire, ArcGIS, Vulcan, Micromine and Leapfrog;
  • Possess an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development according to legal requirements and company policy and goals;
  • Registered as or has the ability to be registered as a Professional Geologist or Engineer to meet the requirements of being a Qualified Person under NI 43-101.
  • Ability to design and implement technical practices, processes, procedures and systems to continually improve technical products and skill sets within the team;
  • Understands, responsibly selects and uses appropriate technology to achieve work and business objectives;
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems;
  • Is self-aware and self-motivated;
  • Understands and can action priorities of the department and the Company at large;
  • Identifies problems, develops and evaluates options and implements solutions;
  • An excellent communicator who can very effectively transfer information and ideas in oral, presentation and written;
  • Is adaptable to change and able to operate in different cultures.
