Overview

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor, the Surface Mobile Mechanic is responsible to perform a full range of maintenance, repair and service activities on heavy equipment. The employee uses considerable independent judgment in making decisions and is able to perform advanced trouble shooting on equipment. Repair and maintain mine equipment in compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Check graders and other and mining equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required.
  • Must have excellent understanding of hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.
  • Perform repair work on heavy trucks.
  • Attach components and adjust new equipment.
  • Open work-orders, find parts and complete parts list in work-orders using all available resources.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary school is usually required
  • Journeyman/woman trade certification in a relevant trade is required.
  • A combination of over 5-6 years of work experience in heavy equipment repair (mining equipment).
  • Prompt daily attendance at assigned schedule
  • Willingness to work alternative shifts as assigned
  • Mechanical ability and an interest in all types of machinery and engines, electronics and precision equipment
  • The ability to think logically and keep up with changes in technology.
  • Must have the strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment and work in cramped or awkward positions,lift objects of various shapes up to 75lbs 

The incumbent will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong commitment to working in a safe, socially responsible manner. Ability to speak French will be considered an asset.
