Director, Geo-Information and Analytics


Reporting to the Director, Geo-information and Analytics, the Senior GIS Specialist will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of end-to-end GIS solutions for the Exploration Department. 


This position requires an advanced understadning of GIS technolgies, the ability to scope users' new requirements, management of large spatial databases and experience working as part of several project teams simultaneously. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Function as an internal GIS consultant to all exploration offices company-wide ensuring a succesful adoption of new GIS technologies;
  • Design, develop and implement GIS desktop and cloud applications;
  • Develop reports of geodatabase spatial queries;
  • Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control for data as a technical reviewer;
  • Work with Exploration DBA’s, ensuring the correct integration of spatial and non-spatial datasets;
  • Establish standards and procedures to deal with data collection, production of information, data integration and the use of online services;
  • Provide data management and software support when and where required;
  • Prepare training materials and tutorials, as well as, provide software training to users;
  • Other related duties as required, including travel (up to 30%).


Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:


  • Experience in a similar role (7 years+);
  • Professional background in Geology, Geography or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred);
  • Advanced GIS software knowledge including Esri suite (e.g., ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Pro, 3D Analyst & Spatial Analyst);
  • Experience configuring and customizing Web Applications (ArcGIS Online).
  • Experience with GIS system architecture for Enterprise GIS planning and implementation;
  • Experience organizing, managing and maintaining ArcSDE databases (and geodatabase versioning);
  • Proficiency in Python or ESRI Java Script API;
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server and proficiency in T-SQL;
  • Experience writing protocols and procedures for Spatial Data Management;
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, strong attention to detail and strong analytical skills;
  • An ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees and contractors using tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training would be an asset;
  • ESRI Technical Certifications may be given additional consideration;
  • Knowledge of software packages and applications such as Micromine, Leapfrog, Acquire and SharePoint are considered assets; and,
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish would be an asset.
