  • Overview

    Reporting to the Supervisor, Health, Safety and Training, the Health & Safety Trainer will be responsible to develop and administer training programs for the underground department to ensure site safety, improve basic training as required and acting as a resource for anyone seeking information.   This is a key role for the mine and the successful candidate must be an exemplary employee on safety with a positive and energetic personality.


    Conduct training needs analysis and provide individual training

    • In collaboration with departments work to identify training needs or gaps
    • Determine source of any gaps and appropriate method to close the gaps
    • Oversee experienced employees who are providing additional training


    Prepare and/or purchase necessary training modules as per legislation and company requirements

    • Conduct research to determine appropriate sources
    • Propose training modules
    • Prepare internal material and tests for individual training modules and needs
    • Have training material reviewed by peers and supervisors prior to use


    Maintain training records and files

    • Ensure all files are completed according to Ministry of Labour standards
    • Ensure all employees have been properly signed off for equipment they are operating
    • Ensure all training records are maintained in employee training files
    • Work with Safety team and other departments to create training procedures to be used in the mine


    Conduct job observations and follow-up training

    • Perform job observations on employees to determine if follow-up training is necessary
    • Provide and/or coordinate follow-up training for employees


    Conduct Risk Assessments, Non Routine Hazardous Tasks and Incident Investigations

    • Lead or participate in Non Routine Hazardous Task development sessions
    • Lead or participate in Risk Assessment processes
    • Lead or participate in Incident Investigations


    • “Train the Trainer” accreditation is a requirement
    • Experience in training of Underground Common Core program
    • Minimum of 5 – 10 years of experience in an underground mine environment
    • Self-starter who is able to anticipate needs and work independent
    • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities
    • The incumbent will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.
