  • Overview

    Reporting to the General Manager, the Superintendent, Environment will be responsible to  develop sustainability and environmental compliance plans to ensure the mine is operating in an environmentally responsible manner; develop and manage strategies by providing direction and supervision to the environmental sustainability employees and ensuring that the compliance targets and schedules are met as forecast; and to contribute to the development of environmental plans and reclamation strategies.


    • Develop environmental compliance plans and reclamation strategies, and communicate and review working plans, policies, and schedules: Work with the mine departments to develop a monthly and quarterly environmental compliance-monitoring plan; Provide advice on necessary environmental approvals and requirements involved in land use and reclamation plans; Guide the implementation of environmental systems, procedures and policies and ensure all regulatory / legal compliance requirements are captured in the operational plans; Review environmental audits to ensure that the operational plans continue to meet the overall environmental strategy; Provide environmental assistance to all projects underway for the site
    • Rehabilitation of abandoned mine properties: Work with government agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable closure and environmental guidelines.
    • Oversee consultants and contractors to ensure proper analysis, engineering design of closure options, completion of proper closure plans, and implementation of closure strategies to ensure environmental and mining compliance.
    • Establishing direction for sampling programs for closure requirements
    • Ensure environmental compliance for the site: Ensure all government reports are submitted in a timely manner; Manage environment monitoring programs and the permitting process for new and existing properties; Manage workplace monitoring programs; Manage the emergency response plans; Manage the Mine Closure Planning for the property
    • Provide direction to the environmental sustainability team


    • As the ideal candidate, you hold a university degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related degree. You must have at least 10 yrs of environmental and mining related experience, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in supervising / leading teams and people.
    • Excellent knowledge of Provincial and Federal Acts and Regulations, and solid understanding of the environmental impact of mining and milling processes.
    • Ability to lead and coach technical professionals in a direction that honors their goals and the mine’s needs
    • The individual should have demonstrated a high level of energy, self motivation and strong organizational skills.
    • Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort. Good communication skills, both orally and written with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
