  • Overview

    Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager-Canada, the Sr Supply Chain Supervisor will be responsible for development and deployment of supply chain processes, procedures and training that help Alamos Gold – Island Gold achieve its goal of a “Best-in-Class” in supply chain management within the mining industry.  This will be done by championing the drive for operational excellence, ensuring we’re able to meet customer demands and execute departmental and organizational strategies.  The role will collaborate with all department employees, internal customers and external vendors.


    The role is also responsible for the management of customer orders, carrier and vendor performance.  The incumbent must possess critical and analytical thinking abilities, display creativity and innovation, and effectively influence within and across functional boundaries.  A focus on the needs of the customer and the business, while targeting profitability for the organization, is critical for success in this role.


    • Identify and capitalize on efficiency improvement opportunities through improvement projects.
    • Drive the request for quote/proposal process.
    • Conduct vendor rationalization process.
    • Negotiate new and renewing contracts with vendors.
    • Work with the Legal team to create contracts and sign-off on projects.
    • Communicate and update policies, procedures and budgets required for effective supply chain operations.
    • Manage a team of buyers and warehouse staff, successfully executing day-to-day activities.
    • Manage the cost effectiveness of the supply chain.
    • Develop, implement, track, and improve key performance metrics consistent with business objectives.
    • Produce, analyze, interpret, and distribute daily/weekly/monthly reports.
    • Update current and future budgets and prioritize items with efficiency, cost and/or productivity gains.
    • Approve requisitions and purchase orders, and manage inventory.
    • Assist in strategic sourcing initiatives, adding value from a business perspective.
    • Ensure contract administration and service agreements are accurate, and that suppliers adhere to the outlined terms, supply deficiencies and costing.
    • Review all reports for discrepancies and trends and rectify outstanding items or escalate them to senior management.
    • Maintain and update staffing schedules, month-end inventory and supply reports.
    • Ensure storage facilities and employees meet health and safety regulations as well as company standards.
    • Monitor expenditures and budgets regularly.
    • Review data to identify inefficiencies, enhance productivity and ensure supplies are replenished in order to avoid disruptions to mine operations.
    • Continually monitor the market rates for transportation to ensure the best rates are being achieved.
    • Support Continuous Improvement projects
    • Manage the perpetual or periodic cycle count


    • 5-8 years Supply Chain Management experience in a fast-moving mining environment preferred
    • 3-5 years supervisory experience in a dynamic work environment
    • Self-starter who is able to anticipate needs and work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, growing work environment.
    • The individual should have demonstrated a high level of energy, self-motivation and strong organizational skills.
    • Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort.
    • Good communication skills, both orally and written, with both internal and external contacts
    • Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
