  • Overview

    Reporting to the Mechanical Superintendent, the Mechanical GF will be responsible to execute maintenance plans (Mobile Department) for above ground and underground, by providing direction and supervision to the maintenance supervisory employees and ensuring that asset optimization schedules and programs are met and maintenance work is performed in the safest and most cost effective manner. To contribute to the development of maintenance plans

    Responsibilities

    • Assist with the development of maintenance plans and budgets
    • Develop a schedule using information from the operations and other departments to synchronize the achievement of repair and maintenance goals, to maximizes equipment utilization and minimize downtime
    • Monitor plans and schedules on a daily basis and communicate adjustments to the supervisory teams to ensure commitments are met.
    • Provide input into the development and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures.
    • Develops and implements maintenance budget and ensures respect of budget
    • Reviews and prepares reports and completes documentation related to maintenance (mechanical)
    • Identify maintenance (mechanical) inefficiencies and develop and implement necessary changes to improve and correct those inefficiencies.
    • Oversee the first line supervision of the maintenance crews:
    • Provide guidance to supervisory employees in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all activities related to maintenance (mechanical)
    • Answers escalated queries and handles requests related to maintenance (mechanical) which includes problem solving and judgment
    • Provide guidance and approves the analysis and implementation changes suggested to ensure maintenance is preventative, predictive, and proactive
    • In collaboration with supervisory team and with procurement, approves purchases of equipment for current and future needs
    • Inform crew and managers about priorities and required changes to priorities in order to meet maintenance targets.
    • Tour and inspect mine to detect and resolve equipment maintenance, safety, atmospheric, and personnel issues.
    • Motivate employees, and create team spirit. Develop and maintain appropriate attitude between employees.
    • Promote health & safety, and environmental standards and ensure they are respected
    • Other duties as required.
    • Provide leadership to the team
    • Assist in building an appropriate team through recruitment and development.
    • Provide guidance to direct reports in the hiring of maintenance employees.
    • Provide employees with clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required.
    • Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the future requirements of direct reports and maintenance staff.
    • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.
    • Complete all time entry, vacation requests and scheduling
    • Promote and maintain a high performance culture

    Qualifications

    • Technical training or certification or Diploma of Collegial Studies
    • 8 - 10 years of mining experience.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in supervisory roles.
    • Solid working knowledge of mining methods.
    • Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for Mines and Mining Plants
    • Self-starter who is able to anticipate needs and work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, growing work environment.
    • The individual should have demonstrated a high level of energy, self-motivation and strong organizational skills.
    • Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort.
    • Good communication skills, both orally and written with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.

     

    Training and Learning opportunitiesThe incumbent will demonstrate excellent English oral and written communication skills. The ability to hold conversational French will be considered an asset.
